Frequently Asked Questions
What medium do you use?
I work in oils, a slow-drying medium. Working in layers means even a small, simple piece can take weeks to complete as the layers must dry in between. I also pride myself on attention-to-detail, meaning the creation of each piece is extremely time-intensive. My prices must reflect this. Know when you’re purchasing an original painting from me, it’s one made with 100% effort and heart.
Can I commission a piece of art?
Yes! While my capacity to take on commission work can vary depending on my work load, it’s something I love to offer! Please get in touch here with any inquiries.
What is the commission process like?
Step One: sizes & pricing
I offer a range of sizes and prices for paintings on gallery-wrapped canvas which come wired and ready to hang. Please email me with your vision, and I can offer a a few quotes.
If I know where you’re based, I can quote in your currency, however, since I typically use PayPal or Wise for international orders, prices may be subject to their currency conversion rates.
FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING ON EVERY ORDER.
Step Two: photos
I require at least one quality reference photo. If you’re unsure, I’m more than happy to take a look at your options and help you decide which one would be most effective for the main reference image.
A picture with soft, natural lighting is ideal. For portraits, try to avoid harsh shadows and dim lighting. It is helpful if I’m able to clearly see the details in the eyes as well as direction of fur. That way, I’m able to achieve maximum accuracy and detail.
I understand quality photos are sometimes not an option, especially if your furry friend is no longer with us. In this case, I ask for as many different photos you have of them, and I will try my very best to work with what I have.
If you’d like a portrait featuring multiple animals, I’m able to use separate images of them, and arrange them together on the canvas
Step Three: booking & deposit
Please send an email to info@brittanydixonart.com with your chosen canvas size, your photos, a specific date you may need your painting by, and any further info (i.e. your pet’s name or breed, the occasion for your painting, any specific vision you have for the finished piece.)
I take payments in two instalments, a 50% non-refundable deposit upon booking, and the remaining 50% once your painting is complete. The initial deposit allows me to lock in your order on my schedule.
Turnaround time varies. I’ll be able to offer a more accurate timeframe upon booking, however, please allow at least 4-5 weeks for the entire process. Oil is a slow-drying medium, so drying time needs to be taken into consideration.
You will be updated on your painting’s progress as I work. This way, I know you’ll be entirely happy with the outcome upon completion.
Payments can be made via PayPal or Wise for international orders, or bank transfer Australia-wide.
Step Four: completion & postage
Once you’ve ensured me you’re 100% happy with the outcome of the finished painting, I will send you an invoice for the remaining amount. Meanwhile, your painting will take 1-2 weeks to dry.
I will then notify you once it’s varnished, fully dry and ready to ship. Your piece will then be carefully and protectively packaged and mailed to you.
How long will it take to receive my order?
I strive to have prints and originals packaged and shipped within 1-3 business days.
Domestic orders are usually delivered within 3-7 business days of dispatch. International orders are usually delivered within10-14 business days of dispatch.
Note: if an original painting is fresh off the easel and therefore still drying, I will disclose that in the description.
How are your paintings shipped?
Prints are safely rolled in a postage tube and shipped with Australia Post. Original artworks are packaged with the utmost precaution to avoid any damage in transport, and are shipped with either Australia Post or DHL Express, depending on size. I strive to re-use packaging materials to avoid waste.
Will I be charged customs fees or import taxes?
I do try to pay any extra custom fees or import taxes on original painting orders for my customer, but this does depend on the postal service I use, and the rules in your country. Please make yourself aware of your country’s rules and know the customer will be responsible for unexpected customs or duty fees/taxes.
Do you accept returns or exchanges?
I do not accept returns. However, if your order is damaged in transport, please contact me and I will do what I can to fix it.
